Child Passenger Safety Program
The Barnstable Fire Department currently has five (5) members that are trained and certified as Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technicians, including two (2) members that are special needs certified.
Neil Tuepker – EMS Officer (Special Needs Certified)
Karen Hickey – Administrative Assistant
Nicholas Black – Firefighter/Paramedic
Frederico Nogueira – Firefighter/EMT (Bi-lingual in Portuguese + English)
Francis M. Pulsifer – Fire Chief (Special Needs Certified)
CPS Technicians are trained and certified by the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the safe installation of child restraints (car seats) and are available to assist the public with either a new installation or to check an existing installation of a child restraint device. Throughout the year, our technicians participate in several community events as well as host a fitting station right at the fire department. This service is offered free of charge to any member of the public.
To have your child restraint system checked or installed by a certified technician, please make an appointment by contacting the Barnstable Fire Department at 508-362-3312. *Please note that we are not currently performing this service due to the current COVID-19 circumstances. This is for the safety of our citizens as well as our staff. Thank you for your understanding.
