OPEN BURNING
Open Burning is not permitted until January 15, 2024.
In an effort to make our permitting process more efficient and less time consuming for residents, permit numbers will no longer be issued. The changes in this policy reflect our continued commitment to the citizens of Barnstable and Cummaquid. Beginning January 15th, check this page (after 9:30AM) on the morning you would like to burn. A message will be displayed above stating whether or not open burning will be allowed. This decision is based on the daily report we receive from the Department of Fire Services, along with the weather conditions each day.
You must obtain a copy of the current years rules and regulations by visiting Mass.gov here or stop in at the Fire Department at 3249 Main Street, in Barnstable Village between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM between January 15th and May 1st.
Open burning must be done:
- Between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from January 15 to May 1
- At least 75 feet from all buildings
- As close as possible to the source of material being burned
Barnstable Fire Department reserves the right to rescind your permission to burn for any reason deemed necessary by fire department personnel.
